David ButterworthAbout
Back in 1975, David Butterworth and the boys and men’s Choir of St Mary’s issued an LP, featuring the church’s recently installed Marcussen organ on one side, and a selection of anthems sung by the choir on the other.
The original tapes have now been rescued, baked, and digitalised for posterity by one of the former choristers, Jeremy Tribbick, and it is agreed that these have come out with a clarity and quality in excess of the original LP.
A further disc has been prepared of a reserve pool of anthems not selected for the original LP for lack of space, along with some performances abroad, recorded live in the Abbey Church of Løgumkloster (8 August 1976) and the Abbey Church of Sct Catharinae, Ribe (29 July 1980).
This is a non-profit venture recognising and honouring the outstanding contribution of dedicated boys, parents and gentlemen alike in committing themselves, week in, week out, on an entirely voluntary basis, to enriching the regular round of services at the great church of St Mary’s, and is being generously supported by another former chorister, Simon Lofthouse, KC.
